New Exhibition Celebrates the Mediterranean World of Dubrovnik Photographer Pavo Urban

08.06.2026

A new exhibition dedicated to the work of legendary Dubrovnik photographer Pavo Urban will open on June 10 at the Dulčić Masle Pulitika Gallery

Titled Mediterraneanism of Pavo Urban, the exhibition presents a different side of the photographer best known for documenting the destruction of Dubrovnik during the Homeland War. Instead of wartime images, visitors will discover photographs captured between 1985 and 1991 that focus on everyday life, people, light, stone, streets and the sea.

The exhibition features 15 photographs from Dubrovnik and the surrounding region, offering a glimpse into the Mediterranean world that inspired Urban before he became a war reporter.

Organised by the Museum of Arts and Crafts in Zagreb and the Museum of Modern Art, the exhibition opens at 7:00 p.m. on June 10 and will remain on display until July 19.

Pavo Urban, who died at the age of 23 while photographing the attack on Dubrovnik on December 6, 1991, remains one of the most iconic figures in Croatian photography and a lasting symbol of the city during wartime.
