Croatia's Allure Captivates UK Media: Telegraph, Times, and ITV Highlight the Country's Tourism Gems

21.05.2023

The fact that Croatia is recognized as an attractive, high-quality, and popular tourist destination on the British market is confirmed by numerous media articles about our country in prestigious British media outlets such as Telegraph, Times, and the national television network ITV. These publications are the result of cooperation between the Croatian National Tourist Board's London Office and the editorial teams of these media outlets through the organization of study trips for journalists Jane Foster and Mary Novakovich, as well as a production team from ITV led by TV presenter Larisa Corda.

The tourism potentials of Croatia were showcased on British ITV in the program "This Morning," which highlighted the attractions of Split and Brač, focusing on Diocletian's Palace, St. Domnius Cathedral, the natural beauty of the island of Brač, and the Brač stone carving school, which preserves the tradition of sculpting with Brač stone. The next episode is expected to air on May 22, featuring the Pelješac peninsula.

Phoebe Nicolaou, a producer of the "This Morning" show, stated, "As a producer at ITV, I have been fortunate to travel and shoot in many destinations around the world. Our recent trip to Croatia was an example of a very well-executed journey in collaboration with the tourism board, planning our shooting itinerary. We were welcomed with incredible hospitality and generosity, which Croatia is highly regarded for. Our tour guides, drivers, waiters, and restaurant owners were wonderful and incredibly knowledgeable."

In addition to the television program, Croatian tourist attractions were also highlighted on the cover of the travel supplement in the British Times, written by Mary Novakovich, a prestigious British journalist. The article focused on exceptionally high-quality, unique, and new hotels in Croatia that are worth visiting in the upcoming season. The publication titled "The 25 coolest Croatian hotels to book before anyone else" presents Croatia as a rising star in luxury tourism, offering prestigious hotels from Hvar, Ugljan, Dugi Otok, Makarska, Dubrovnik, to Cavtat.

Croatia was also featured in the Telegraph, which published a report by journalist Jane Foster titled "The 30 greatest holidays in Croatia." The article presents Croatia as the top tourist favorite this summer, emphasizing the value of combining coastal vacations with untouched nature. The article promotes authenticity and the diverse potential of destinations, illustrating 30 ideal activities such as wine and truffle tasting in Istria, visiting the Telašćica Nature Park, luxurious hotels on Lošinj Island, and the tourist attractions of Zagreb, described as a year-round destination.

The value of these media publications is confirmed by official statistics, with ITV reaching over 17 million viewers in the United Kingdom and recording a 25% increase in viewership over the past year. The Times has over 8 million readers characterized by high purchasing power and a focus on luxury travel, while Telegraph had over 5.5 million readers in April.

According to eVisitor data, in the current part of the year, approximately 96,000 arrivals and nearly 370,000 overnight stays were recorded from the British market, representing a 16% increase in arrivals and an 8% increase in overnight stays compared to the same period last year.
