05.05.2023 – Japan Comes to Dubrovnik – Kimono Promotion

03.05.2023

The Croatian-Japanese Exchange Society and the Marin Držić Theatre invite you to a promotion of traditional Japanese kimonos on May 5 at 8 p.m. at the Marin Držić Theatre. The event will feature a performance by the vocal group Klapa Kaše and actress Srđana Šimunović. Admission is free with prior ticket reservation at the theatre box office or by phone at (020) 321 088 or email at blagajna@kmd.hr.

Yuko Murakami is the head of a kimono school located in prestigious areas of Tokyo such as Omotesando and Aoyama, with over 1,000 students learning how to wear kimonos and behave elegantly while wearing them. Wearing a kimono not only expresses the beauty of Japan but also embodies the spirit of Japan.

"We respect the beauty of traditional Japanese culture and the creation that is passed down through the tireless efforts of creators. We hope to be able to demonstrate this to a wide range of people around the world and pass on all the secrets and values of Japanese culture to the new generations to come. In order to not only preserve but also develop this tradition, we produce and sell dresses, bags, and other items using kimono patterns and sewing them using Western three-dimensional cutting techniques," stated the organisers
