Discover the Sahara Through Art: Amela Frankl Exhibition Opens in Dubrovnik
Dubrovnik’s cultural calendar welcomes a fascinating new exhibition this Thursday, October 29, as Croatian multimedia artist Amela Frankl brings her experiences of the Sahara Desert to the Museum of Modern Art Dubrovnik.
Entitled “…upravo tako, unedogled!” (loosely translated as “Just Like That, Endlessly!”), the exhibition opens at 7:00 PM on Thursday, October 29, offering visitors a unique artistic journey inspired by the artist’s extended stays in Mauritania, West Africa.
Through a captivating combination of photography, video, poetic texts and installations, Frankl explores the meeting of different cultures, landscapes and personal experiences.

The exhibition builds on her earlier project Black Glass on the Road (2019–2023), incorporating new works that reflect the lasting influence of her time in the Sahara.
Blending documentary photography with personal reflections and staged imagery, the collection offers an intimate exploration of identity, cultural differences and the emotional impact of unfamiliar surroundings.
Born in Zagreb in 1963, Amela Frankl has been active on Croatia’s contemporary art scene since the 1980s, working across a wide range of artistic disciplines.
Curated by Dr Rozana Vojvoda, the exhibition provides another opportunity for digital nomads, residents and visitors to discover Dubrovnik’s vibrant cultural scene beyond the summer tourist season.
