Historic City Guard Returns to Watch Over Dubrovnik’s Gates

Throughout its rich history as a fortified city, Dubrovnik relied on a dedicated city guard to keep watch over its gates and protect its citizens from potential threats. Today, that centuries-old tradition comes back to life — and visitors have a chance to witness it firsthand.

From June 18 to September 13, 2025, the City Guard will once again march proudly through the streets of the Old Town. Every Wednesday and Saturday evening, between 7:00 and 8:30 PM, the guards parade down the iconic Stradun before taking up ceremonial posts at Pile and Ploče Gates.

It’s a moment that blends history, theatre, and civic pride — perfect for immersing yourself in Dubrovnik’s living heritage.
